The Visionary Behind Sacred Grove

Ellen Whiteside's journey began not in serene groves, but amidst the bustling energy of Columbia, SC. Her early life was marked by a deep yearning for connection and healing, a path that led her far beyond her initial horizons. This quest for understanding and self-discovery ultimately shaped the foundation of Sacred Grove Retreat Center.

Driven by an insatiable curiosity and a desire to explore the human spirit's potential, Ellen embarked on transformative travels across Europe and Asia. Each ancient temple, bustling marketplace, and quiet meditation retreat deepened her understanding of diverse healing traditions and the universal need for inner peace. These experiences ignited a passion within her to create a space where others could also find their unique path to wellness.

Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Ellen’s life has been guided by curiosity, adventure, and a deep desire to serve. After graduating from Clemson University, she traveled widely—from Washington, DC to Europe with just a backpack, and later across Asia, including sacred journeys in Tibet, Nepal, and India.

For 22 years, she lived in Portland, Oregon, working as a licensed massage therapist and supporting others’ well-being. In 2003, she returned to the South, following her soul’s call for more sunshine and a deeper spiritual path.

With over 50 years of study in metaphysical and transformational principles, Ellen became a certified Dream Builder coach in 2022 and now offers retreats and coaching for personal transformation. Since May 2025, she also hosts Mindset & Miracles on WDRBmedia.com, sharing wisdom and inspiration every Monday at 11am EST.

At the heart of Ellen’s journey is a simple truth: fulfillment comes from helping others heal, grow, and shine. Through Sacred Grove and beyond, service remains her greatest joy.

In June of 2012, Murphy found his way to Sacred Grove, and it was an instant connection between him and Ellen. Murphy, the friendly and welcoming canine, is a constant presence on the property.
